While on my way back from some work in C-Block Janakpuri, I chose to walk my way inside the Janakpuri District Park. While going towards that place, I noticed a lot of young couples sitting on the benches, amongst the crowd of senior citizens and familes who were out with the children to have a good time. But on my way back, around 8:20 pm, i noticed that most of the park was dark due to poor lighting, save for the area near the food stalls. And there were mostly couples cozing up to each other in the garb of darkness. While going through one such dark stretch, i noticed these two policemen who were standing with a couple, and while passing them by, i overheard the policeman say to the girl: "should I call your parents?" to which the girl replied in a shaky voice "Please don't do it uncle! Please forgive me!".
I was like what the F? The couple seemed to be from not too well off families, another reason why they must have been targetted. I don't know what happened to them or how much bribe they had to pay to that asshole, but just 10 metres ahead of me I noticed another couple in the dark, who were discussing things in not exactly a low voice. I just told them to move and they thanked me and immediately got to their feet. I guess the ones sitting in the well-lit area must have been spared, because according to these shitheads the couple must have been behaving "inappropriately" in the dark, as is their statement to the media all the time! Where the hell should lovers go just to meet each other and not be recognized?
Just yesterday, my friend had accompanied his mates. Now it so happens that he used to drink, but had totally (as he said) stopped it. He just accompanied them to their booze session, and while they were sitting in the parking area, inside a car, a policeman came around and started harassing them. With the recent stupid rules related to booze that were "amended", the policeman had a great time harassing my friend and his mates. He asked for a bribe containing some fancy liquor brand itself! That was highly expensive, around Rs. 2000. Obviously the bunch of them told him that they didn't have this much money. He kept harassing them till he got away with Rs. 1000, and my friend who had just 200 in his pocket, had to go home totally empty, and wrthing in anger that even though he had stopped drinking, eh still had to go through such stuff.
Delhi's policemen are way too clever to round up soft targets. I'll never forget the day when that ACP took away our car on Anuj-Pinak's birthday, while our car was in no way causing a traffic jam or anything, on that hell-of-a-wide road! To top it all, his own car stayed put at the same place, and just as everyone went away from the Maruti 800 for barely 10 seconds, the car was being towed away. That fucked up ACP or whatever, never even warned us to stay put with the car else it would be towed away, and this when he is a public servant. The biggest irony of it all was that scores of other cars were parked there, but since they were all pricier models, they weren't targeted because of obvious reasons that they might belong to some rich man with 'connections'. And 800 is the fine for such an offence! Wow! I remember when such a drive was being conducted at Tilak Nagar market, one traffic policeman was repeatedly asking his senior whether he should tow away the SUV Scorpio, or the Suzuki Alto parked beyond it. The fact that they were scared of anyone owning an SUV turning out to be a big shot was of a high probability, made them go to the soft target again. The Scorpio wasn't touched! BC! Delhi Police sucks. Period.
